Earth Liberation Front Claims Responsibility
For Torching A $2.5 Million Mansion In Colorado!
URGENT NEWS ADVISORY
December 7, 2000
LONGMONT, CO - The underground Earth Liberation Front (E.L.F.) has claimed
responsibility for burning a new home in the area of Longmont, Colorado on
November 27, 2000. The fire caused an estimated $2.5 million in damages.
A communique sent by the Earth Liberation Front appeared as follows,
"Viva la revolution! The Boulder ELF burned the Legend Ridge mansion on Nov.
27th. We know that the corporate developers No on Amendment 24 campaign is
guilty of a $6 million election buyout."
The fire occurred in the 160 acre Legend Ridge neighborhood subdivision Niwot.
The Amendment 24 campaign referred to in the communique was a measure known as
the "Responsible Growth Initiative" that appeared on the local ballot in
November. Voters defeated this Amendment after the group Coloradans for
Responsible Reform, raised $5.7 million to fight the measure. The communique
from the ELF makes reference to the near $6 million raised as a mere buying of
politics by the corporate development firm.
The ELF is an international organization that uses direct action to stop the
systematic exploitation and destruction of the natural environment. Since
1997, the ELF has inflicted well over $34 million in North America alone on
entities profiting off the destruction of the natural environment.
Similar ELF actions targeting urban sprawl this year include the January 23,
2000 fire which caused $200,000 in damages to a Bloomington, IN home and five
incidents in the last few months targeting development in the Long Island, NY
area.
