Prisoners

Despite having been active in Europe since 1992, and despite being described by the FBI as America's number one domestic terrorist group, there are very few Earth Liberation Front activists in prison. However it is important to remember and support those who have lost their liberty in defence of Mother Earth. The following page lists: 1) Those facing trial;
2) Those imprisoned for specific Earth Liberation Front actions; 3) Those who are imprisoned for earth liberation direct action but whose actions were not claimed under the ELF banner.

THOSE AWAITING TRIAL OR SENTENCING

San Gabriel Valley Defendant (USA)
Billy Cottrell - currently being held without bailIn 2003 ELF activists targeted San Gabriel Valley car dealerships and a small number of privately owned vehicles, resulting in the damaging and destruction of approximately 125 SUV's. The FBI investigated the actions and several people were called before a Grand Jury. On the word of police informants an environmental campaigner, William Cottrell, was identified as a suspect for the ELF actions and has been remanded into custody charged with arson and criminal damage.

The Chico Defendants (USA)
In 2003 ALF and ELF activists targeted the town of Chico, California, culminating with an arson attack on two McDonalds restaurants. The FBI investigated the arsons and called several people before a Grand Jury. Following the Grand Jury investigation it was alleged by a police informant that two people, Harjit Gill and Robert Brooks, had lied during the investigation. Both of these men have subsequently been charged with two counts of lying to a Federal Officer and one count of lying to a Federal Grand Jury.

The Richmond Three (USA)
Between December 2003 and January 2004 three men, Adam Blackwell, Aaron Linas and John Wade plead guilty to a series of Earth Liberation Front actions which occurred in 2002 and included damaging 25 SUVs; disabling and attempting to disable construction site machinery; window smashing and lock gluing against McDonalds and Burger King; opposing urban sprawl by damaging new homes under construction; and damaging a jeep with baseball bats. All three are currently at liberty and are to be sentenced in April 2004.

The Long Island Defendants (USA)
In February 2001, George Mashkow III was arrested after he boasted about his involvement with a series of ELF arsons on Long Island. After his arrest, Mashkow turned traitor and implicated three others in the arsons. Two of the people Mashkow named, Jared McIntyre and Matthew Rammelkamp, have subsequently admitted their own involvement with the ELF but refused to give the authorities any further information. The third person, Connor Cash, has denied all the allegations made against him. Out of all the defendants Mashkow is the only one currently in prison having been caught breaching his bail conditions in 2003.

The Eagle Creek Defendants (USA)
In the late summer of 2002 four people were accused of involvement in the 2001 arson attacks on logging trucks in Eagle Creek. No group has ever claimed responsibility for these arsons. The four accused are Jacob Sherman, Jeremy Rosenbloom, Angela Marie Cesario and Tre Arrow (Michael Scarpitti). Because of these allegations Jacob, Jeremy and Angela were all arrested and charged before being released on bail. However the police initially failed to locate Tre Arrow who was recently arrested in Canada in March 2004, where he is currently held pending legal hearings. With the others, both Jeremy and Angela have denied their involvement with the fires and are currently on bail awaiting trial.

But, soon after Sherman was arrested he decided to turn traitor and started giving evidence to the police which resulted in both him and Tre Arrow having subsequent arson charges bought against them for an ELF arson against Ross Island Sand & Gravel trucks in Portland. On the 4th of December 2002 Jacob Sherman formally entered a plea bargain and pleaded guilty to his involvement in the arsons. In return for his guilty plea, Sherman was jailed in 2003 with a 3-year sentence. Those Currently Imprisoned

This prisoner list is broken into two sections. Those who have been jailed for specific ELF actions and those who have been jailed for illegal earth liberation direct actions but who have not operated under the banner of the Earth Liberation Front.
